MONDOLETTOSOTTOILCORVO

WILLEHAD GRAFENHORST: bass, computer
GANDOLFO PAGANO: prepared guitar

Mondolettosottoilcorvo, formed by Willehad Grafenhorst and Gandolfo Pagano, brings together the musical experiences of two musicians who grew up in opposite regions of Europe. They interact continuously, providing impulses, with each action being both the cause and effect of unpredictable developments that result in real compositions. Both musicians regularly work together with colleagues from the fields of music and dance.

Willehad Grafenhorst With a foundation in classical piano, trumpet, and bass, Grafenhorst’s artistic trajectory launched into the 80s noise rock scene with “KIXX” before a pivotal 1996 move to Berlin steered him towards contemporary free music and intermedia explorations. His distinctive current electronic music is rooted in the natural timbres of string instruments like bass, contrabass balalaika, or Hawaiian guitar, which he meticulously processes digitally using Pure Data software. This innovative approach is central to his intermedia art, particularly through the “cri du coeur” project (founded 2003 with Fine Kwiatkowski) and ongoing collaborations including “arbeiten am tx symbol” and, since his 2017 move to Sicily, the duo Mondolettosottoilcorvo, all of which underscore his continuous exploration of the symbiotic relationship between sound, visuals, and technology across an extensive international career.

Gandolfo Pagano He is cofounder of various groups including Mondolettosottoilcorvo with Willehad Grafenhorst and Nero Diaspora with Rossella Cangini e Fabrizio Elvetico. He has played, among others, with Cat Hope, Gianni Trovalusci, Lelio Giannetto, Michael Fisher, Tristan Honsinger, Eugene Chadbourne, Thomas Lehn, Mark Dresser and others. He has been a member of the Sicilian Improvisers Orchestra.
