Bitter Crop

self titled

Un percorso sonoro tra gospel, protesta e free jazz, dove la musica diventa rito civile e spirituale. Registrato interamente dal vivo, il disco trasforma memoria e improvvisazione in un’unica voce contro l’indifferenza e la barbarie del presente.

Drawing inspiration from the closing words of “Strange Fruit” and rooted in materials gathered at the crossroads of Spirituals, protest songs, and free jazz, the trio Bitter Crop has shaped a repertoire where gospel traditions intertwine with pieces steeped in the spirit of the civil rights struggle. The result is a broad mosaic in which shards of musical and social consciousness find coherence within the open forms of improvisation. Here, music becomes a tool of inquiry and reflection on the very idea of liturgy—and on its resonance with a present in which the meaning of prayer and of struggle is stifled by individualism, authoritarianism, and barbarity.
